I'm contacting you about Sober Living Homes. Long-term, residential neighborhoods are essential to the health, fabric and safety of our communities. Businesses operate Recovery Residences, which are remunerated through health insurance funding. The state is abusing cities of Orange County by over-licensing addiction treatment centers and their coordinated housing in beach cities. Bad operators are exploiting our properties and neighborhoods, increasing calls to sheriffs/police while engaging in patient brokering, kickbacks and health insurance fraud. They lure addicts from out-of-state and then strand them here when treatment ends. It is time for you to take a strong stand on this issue. Our family expects you to take action to specifically regulate these properties, to target the unnecessarily high numbers of treatment centers the state is licensing in our city, and to protect recovering addicts from the abuses the state and federal government continue to allow. Separation requirements have been upheld by the Department of Justice and HUD. We would like to see a clear statement from you about what you have already done on this issue and what you plan to do in the next year.
