Levin - Track Record on Recovery Residences,
     aka "Sober Living Homes"

Congressman Mike Levin (D - 49th District, Dana Point to Del Mar) has served in Congress since 2018.

In February of 2019, Rep. Trone created a bipartisan Freshmen Working Group on Addiction to focus on the opioid crisis. Rep. Levin joined the group immediately.

In August 2019, Congressman Levin, joined by Congress Members Porter and Rouda, and others requested the Justice Department describe the department’s progress toward enforcement of the antibrokering aspects of a 2018 law and answer the following questions:
  1. How many cases have been charged under 18 U.S.C. 220? (with breakdowns requested)
  2. How many of these cases have been convicted, and what is the average sentence?
  3. What additional authorities or resources does the Department need to address patient brokering?
Six months after the inquiry about patient brokering, the Department of Justice responded in February 2020. No cases had been identified. Rep. Levin decried the lack of progress in a press release.  On March 13, 2020, Reps. Levin, Porter and Rouda requested that the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies to direct the Department of Justice to fully enforce Section 8122 of the 2018 bill. Language insisting that DOJ “shall make every effort to fully enforce Section 8122… including the investigation of potential violations,” was inserted into HR 7617 a government funding package, in August.
