Subject: Support SB 329
Dear Committee Staff,
Our family is writing to you today in support of SB 329. A state directed audit, completed in the fall of 2024, indicated that the Department of Health Care Services often does not meet its own standards for timeliness of investigations of complaints, ending up inspecting half of the facilities late, and 22 of the 60 complaint investigations took more than a year to complete. While the audit claimed that this was due to the pandemic, the reality is that DHCS was late like this even before the pandemic. Lives are on the line when DHCS does not rapidly address complaints. By requiring prompt assignment of investigations and rapid completion, DHCS would successfully intervene in situations in which occupants have the potential to die. It is critical that the state mandate such requirements, especially as more Californians enter treatment under Prop. 1. To protect and save lives of those in recovery, our family supports SB 329.
Thank you.
