Subject: Oppose AB 1267
Dear Committee Staff,
Our family is writing to you today to inform you of our opposition to SB 1267. SUD treatment operators seek to co-locate facilities and concentrate them together for the convenience of the operator; it's cheaper and easier to move your staff and groceries around shorter distances. SB 1267 effectively encourages and generates a distributed institution in a residential neighborhood, spawning an enclave of people with similar disabilities. The courts oppose placing the vulnerable or disabled in enclaves because it reproduces the experience of institutionalization and denies them the right to live in heterogeneous neighborhoods. Recovering addicts do not want to live in villages of recovering addicts; they should be supported in integrating into communities. Legislators should oppose SB 1267.
Thank you.
